The 6 Pilates Principles

  1. Concentration. The most important principle. You must be very conscious of the movements you are executing.

  2. Control. Every movement is to be done with control. No sloppy and half-hearted movements.

  3. Centering. Pilates emphasizes on working your body parts evenly such that no imbalances arise.

  4. Fluidity of the exercise. The aim is to execute the exercises like a dance where every movement flows into the next.

  5. Precision. Each movement is to be as precise as possible.

  6. Breathing. Proper breathing techniques are to be followed. Never hold your breath while practicing any Pilates exercises.

"I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They'd be happier."
