Q: What is Pilates?

Pilates is a system of over 500 controlled movements, beneficial to spine support (posture), flexibility, balance, muscle tone and creates a fusion of mind and body. Click to find out more about Pilates and its benefits.

Q: Is Pilates suitable for me?

Pilates can be beneficial for virtually all ages, fitness levels and body conditions. The method is like a bridge between physical fitness and physical therapy, and can be adapted, modified and customized for individual needs. It is great for musculoskeletal injury rehabilitation, and is often recommended by doctors, physiotherapists and chiropractors.

If you are pregnant, moderate exercise is safe throughout a normal, healthy pregnancy and many gentle Pilates exercises are appropriate. To be safe, request for a professional Pilates instructor who has been trained to teach women in this condition and refrain from exploring new movements on your own.

Q: Do I need to purchase any equipments to train at home?

The fundamental Pilates workout can be performed on a Pilates mat alone, and great results can be achieved through beginner, intermediate and advanced moves. Hence, a mat will be all you need to reap the benefits of Pilates. Simple (and highly affordable) equipments such as the stretch bands and exercise balls can add some variations to your workout. Of course, elaborate Pilates equipments such as the Reformer, Cadillac and Chair will allow more variations and advanced movements to your workouts.

Q: How often should I do Pilates?

2 to 4 times a week would be optimal. Take a day off in between sessions to rest or engage in some cardiovascular activities such as walking, cycling and swimming. A regular and consistent workout regime will improve the mind-body connection and integrate the various Pilates principles.

Q: How long before I can see or feel the difference?

Following our recommended frequecy of 2 to 4 times a week, you should start seeing and feeling results in about 10 to15 sessions.

Q: Why do I need a Pilates Instructor?

While you can learn the exercise movements from videos or books, it is unlikely that you will be performing them with perfect form. A certified Pilates instructor will help guide you through the exercises, focusing on your form and breathing techniques. Injury risks will certainly be significantly reduced with a certified Pilates Instructor.
